Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica

The Isabel Allende Chapter of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica at Arlington High School is an honor society for those students excelling in Spanish. There are service-oriented projects done by the group and also as individuals.  As in any honor society, not only grades, but also qualities such as leadership, integrity, character, honesty, and attitude are considered for a student to be invited to join.  Those joining will be required to participate in functions and projects that the group decides on.  Officers will be elected by the group in the capacity of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Historian.  Graduating members of the Sociedad will wear honor cords.  Dues are $30. Funds go toward honors cords for graduating senior members ($12 - $15 each), Sociedad T-shirts for members (about $10 - 15), service projects that the group chooses, and the induction ceremony, which will be held in the spring.  ALL STANDING MEMBERS AS WELL AS INDUCTEES ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND THE INDUCTION CEREMONY, which is scheduled tentatively in early April.

Requirements of the Sociedad:

1) Members must be juniors or seniors that have completed 1 semester of Spanish III or a higher level and must have maintained an A average in the study of Spanish for at least 3 semesters. Candidates should have NO ISS or OSS incidents on their high school record for the last 2 years.

2)  New inductees must be juniors or seniors enrolled in Spanish III or Spanish IV, or AP. A standing member that has taken Spanish III but is not enrolled in Spanish IV or AP Spanish must attend meetings and the induction ceremony, and must be involved in the group projects, etc.  Failure to do so will result in expulsion from the Sociedad. Only members currently enrolled in Spanish may be considered as officers.

Any member displaying a lack of these qualities may be expelled from the Sociedad. Any member receiving OSS will be expelled from the Society.
